Nokia's New 5800i XpressMusic Soon

This might actually skip Wi-Fi!

The U.S. FCC website seems to be the best place to look for future product launches and scourge for "leaks". In yet another example of such a leak, sharp-eyed folks have found out that a cousin to the 5800 XpressMusic is awaiting approval from the FCC. The new product goes by the name 5800i. Now, contrary to your assumption, the 5800i will not be an upgrade over the original 5800 Xpressmusic. In fact, from what we know, this one would actually skip Wi-Fi!

To make things more confusing, the camera on this one seems to be marginally better than the one on the 5800. The 3 megapixel camera boasts of a longer focus distance - 4.6mm as opposed to 3.7mm. Nokia seems to think that users would prefer a better camera than Wi-Fi. We cannot think of any other reason why Wi-Fi was dropped from the features list. It would only make sense if this one was priced well below where the 5800 now retails.

In any case, there seems to be quite some time before this one sees its launch. In the meantime, Nokia might just clear up the rough edges and this one should actually make a good 5800 successor/replacement.
